If you're like me, you love pizza but hate all of the extra calories and fat that comes with a traditional fast food pizza.
Just because you're on a mission to healthier eating and losing weight, doesn't mean that you can't have the things you love. You just have to be creative and find ways to make them waistline friendly.
Check out my creative take on pizza.
Ingredients:
1 whole wheat tortilla
2 tbs pizza sauce
2 tbs diced green peppers
2 tbs diced onions
1/3 cup 2% mozzarella cheese
Butter flavored cooking spray
Preheat oven to 450° F. Spray both sides of tortilla lightly with cooking spray. In a skillet on medium heat, place tortilla in pan and lightly toast both sides. Place tortilla on cookie sheet. Spread tomato sauce over tortilla creating a light layer all over. Top with cheese, green peppers and onions. Place in oven until cheese melts, about 5 minutes. Serving size: 1 whole tortilla which yields 4 pieces.
Total approximate calories: 175
This is a great snack. Not only is it filling, but it is very low in calories. Only 175 calories for 4 slices.
You can't beat that.
With most fast food pizza, one slice has 250-300 calories. And who has just one slice? If you have only two slices, you're looking at 500-600 calories.
When making your own light pizza, keep in mind a few things:
- Adding pepperoni and sausage will add lots of unwanted calories and fat. If you want to add meat, try adding small grilled chicken pieces.
- If you don't use a reduced fat or fat-version of cheese, the calories will add up. Keep the cheese light.
- Add all the veggies you like, they hardly add any calories.
- Use a low calorie tortilla. Some are very large and contain too many calories. The one used above has only 50 calories.
