TrainerTiff: You Don't Have to be Perfect

It’s been several weeks since you last worked out. Heck, let’s be honest — it’s been months … at best. Your diet has been full of fast food, and you haven’t sat down to a serving of vegetables in … well, let’s just say a long time. Breakfast? Forget it, you don’t do breakfast.

Does this sound familiar? If so, you’re not alone.

Many people find themselves in this predicament and find it difficult to break out of this rut. There is a common misconception that to be healthy and fit, every day must be perfect.

Guess what? That’s not the case.

Let me repeat: Every day doesn’t have to be perfect.

In fact, you need to allow yourself to indulge from time to time. It is important to keep in mind that it is your overall progress and not the minute-to-minute breakdown of your day that counts.

I can’t tell you how many times I hear people say they started the day off right and then by lunch they gave into some office dessert and that was the end of it. The rest of the day was a wash.

Better to just start fresh tomorrow and forget about the rest of the day. Right?

Wrong!

Just because you slip up, don’t give up. With the next meal, get back on track. Following a healthy diet is not about being perfect all of the time. If your good meals outnumber your bad meals, I’d say you’re on the right track.
